North Stonington is a rural town of farms and back roads, and a ticket on Route 2 or the scenic Route 49 is heard at New London Superior Court (GA10).
North Stonington occupies the southeastern corner of Connecticut, a rural town pressed against the Rhode Island line where the Pawcatuck River draws part of the boundary between the states. Its first settlers, Ezekiel Main and Jeremiah Burch, arrived in 1667 and put down roots in the areas that became the village of North Stonington and Clarks Falls. The town took its name in 1724 from the stony, hilly character of the countryside and finally separated from Stonington to incorporate on its own in 1807.
For a time North Stonington was a busy and prosperous place. Its streams powered mills, tanneries, and ironworks, and a thriving cottage-weaving trade and active farms made it a renowned mercantile center in the 1800s, with goods moving along the stage roads to Norwich and Providence. The village of North Stonington β once known as Milltown and now preserved on the National Register of Historic Places β recalls that era, as do the scattered hamlets of Laurel Glen, Pendleton Hill, and Ashwillet tucked into the surrounding hills.
As the mills faded, North Stonington settled back into the countryside, and dairy farming became its principal industry. The town remains one of the most rural in its corner of the state, a landscape of working farms, stone walls, woodlands, and quiet villages that has resisted the development pressures felt closer to the shoreline and the casinos to the west. It is a place where the agricultural calendar still matters, celebrated each year at the town’s long-running agricultural fair.
The roads here follow the old lines of travel. Route 2, the historic NorwichβWesterly Road, crosses the town carrying traffic toward Rhode Island, while Route 49, the scenic PawcatuckβVoluntown Road, runs north and south through the hills, and Interstate 95 clips the southern edge. These roads see steady through traffic and periodic enforcement, with citations turning up along the faster stretches. We follow these roads and the equipment used along them, which is generally where the violations described below begin.

Connecticut has two very different camera systems watching drivers. One mails you a $50 fine. The other, Flock, feeds police investigations. Here's how to tell them apart.
Read Article βYou're not required to hire one, but a ticket can carry more than a fine β points on your license and a possible insurance increase. An attorney who handles Connecticut traffic matters can review your options and frequently appear for you so you don't have to take time off.
Continuances buy time but don't resolve anything on their own. Pushing the case off again and again usually just stretches it out. It's generally better to have the ticket reviewed and a real strategy chosen.
North Stonington is served by New London Superior Court (GA10), the geographical-area courthouse that handles motor-vehicle matters for the town and the surrounding southeastern communities.
For many traffic matters an attorney can appear at the New London courthouse on your behalf, so you may not need to make the drive yourself. We can review your ticket and explain what your appearance would involve.
Depending on the violation and your record, a conviction can add points to your Connecticut license and may affect your insurance. How serious that is depends on the specifics, which is why it helps to review the ticket before deciding how to handle it.
