Around Montville, the Route 32 and Route 2A approaches to Mohegan Sun stay busy and heavily patrolled, and a ticket there is heard at Norwich Superior Court (GA21).
Montville stretches along the west bank of the Thames River in New London County, set roughly midway between the cities of Norwich and New London. For its first century and a half it was the North Parish of New London, a rocky, forested district whose thin soil made farming a struggle. What it lacked in good cropland it made up for in water power, and along its streams rose mills and small factories β including works that smelted local bog ore into iron β that gave the town a modest industrial base. Montville incorporated as its own town in 1786 and grew as a string of villages: Chesterfield, Mohegan, Oakdale, and Uncasville.
The deepest roots in Montville belong to the Mohegan people, who lived along the Thames long before the colonists arrived and whose sovereign reservation of some seven hundred acres lies within the town’s borders today. That long presence shapes Montville’s modern identity in the most dramatic way possible. In 1996 the Mohegan Tribe opened Mohegan Sun in the village of Uncasville, near the historic Fort Shantok site above the river, and the casino resort grew into one of the largest in the region, drawing millions of visitors a year for gaming, concerts, and events.
The result is a town of sharp contrasts. Much of Montville remains quiet and wooded, a collection of riverside and hill villages with a rural feel, while the Uncasville area hums with the round-the-clock activity of a major destination resort. The town carries both its deep Mohegan heritage and the economic weight of one of southeastern Connecticut’s biggest draws.
That mix keeps Montville’s roads busy. Route 32 runs along the Thames as the main northβsouth road, Route 2A connects Interstate 395 to the casino, and Route 163 serves the inland villages. The approaches to Mohegan Sun in particular carry heavy traffic at all hours and see steady enforcement, and citations are common along them. We follow these roads and the equipment used along them, which is generally where the violations described below begin.

Connecticut has two very different camera systems watching drivers. One mails you a $50 fine. The other, Flock, feeds police investigations. Here's how to tell them apart.
Read Article βYou're not required to hire one, but a ticket can carry more than a fine β points on your license and a possible insurance increase. An attorney who handles Connecticut traffic matters can review your options and frequently appear for you so you don't have to take time off.
Continuances buy time but don't resolve anything on their own. Pushing the case off again and again usually just stretches it out. It's generally better to have the ticket reviewed and a real strategy chosen.
Montville is served by Norwich Superior Court (GA21), the geographical-area courthouse that handles motor-vehicle matters for the town and the surrounding southeastern communities.
For many traffic matters an attorney can appear at the Norwich courthouse on your behalf, so you may not need to attend yourself. We can review your ticket and explain what your appearance would involve.
Depending on the violation and your record, a conviction can add points to your Connecticut license and may affect your insurance. How serious that is depends on the specifics, which is why it helps to review the ticket before deciding how to handle it.
